Yorkshire Thoracic Society – Travel Bursaries

The total available per award is £350 and there will be 4 per year with 2 awarded in September (deadline for applications 31st July) and 2 awarded in April (submission deadline end of February).

Aim: The Yorkshire Thoracic Society aims to support members to attend national and international meetings for the purpose of professional development and presenting work carried out within the region. The goal is to promote the sharing of good practice, showcase research undertaken within the region and support the professional development of local health care professionals.

Awards Available: 4 travel awards will be available each year. Awards will be administered through 2 funding rounds (April and September). Awards will be available up to a value of £350 and can be used to support standard class travel and registration fees for national/international meetings.

Eligibility: Awards will be available to YTS members that are doctors in training, nurses or allied health professionals. For the purpose of award allocation, 1 award will be allocated for doctors in training and 1 for nurses/AHP’s for each funding round. In the event of no applications being received for one of these groups, group allocations will no longer apply and awards will be administered on merit.

Applicants that are presenting work (poster or oral presentation) at the meeting will receive preference and will be asked to confirm that they are willing to present this work at a YTS meeting. Applications will be considered for those not presenting work at the meeting however strong justification will be required in terms of professional development.

How to apply and award allocation: Expression of interest should be sent to Yorkshire.thoracic.society@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Travel Bursary’. An application form will be sent to those expressing an interest including the details of the deadlines for the next funding round. A copy of the application form is included in the appendix. All applications will be reviewed by the YTS committee to confirm eligibility. In the event of more eligible applications being received than awards available; independent review of anonymised applications will be undertaken and scored with the highest scoring applications selected for funding.
